Join us for our Annual Wine, Beer and Cheese Fundraiser!

The Friends of the West Des Moines Library are hosting our 6th Annual Wine, Beer and Cheese Fundraiser.  During this unique event, we will “Toast to Great Books” with wine, beer, and cheese selections from many regions of the country.  We are sure you will find some new favorites!   

We have also assembled a collection of critically acclaimed literature, hand-selected by members of the library staff.  Be sure to check out these great reads!

  • When:  April 13th from 5:30pm – 7:00pm

Fund a Youth-Focused Outreach Vehicle

The West Des Moines Library Friends Foundation is excited to announce our plans to support the West Des Moines Library Youth Services Team with the purchase of a Youth Focused Outreach Vehicle! 

Imagine a pop-up library truck, like an ice cream truck but loaded with books and librarians instead! A pop-up bookmobile like the ones shown below will allow the Youth Services Team to easily transport staff, library items and event materials. This vehicle which is specifically designed for outreach events has visual appeal and includes unique features such as a built-in PA system and digital screens for offsite gaming, digital storytelling, video demonstrations, and program announcements.  

The Youth Services Team will visit daycare and preschool outreach story times, literacy nights, parades, and other special events. In the summer, they will partner with the WDMCS mobile food truck to create a fun “outreach parade” as we travel from site to site.

Become a Friend of the West Des Moines Library

The West Des Moines Library Friends Foundation supports the West Des Moines Public Library and the many services, materials, and programs it provides to our community. With your support, this year the Friends Foundation will help the Library:

  • Purchase new books, electronic materials, technology, and library artwork.
  • Support essential programs that serve the unique needs of children, teens, adults, and seniors.
  • Help fund the library’s Summer Reading Program serving almost 2,600 registered children.
  • During the summer, over 170 programs were offered to more than 25,000 attendees.
  • Sponsor and operate special events like the Visiting Author series, featuring Iowa authors
